DAT Tape Subsystem [Apunix Computer Services]

The DAT Tape Subsystem uses 4mm cassettes written in the industrystandard DDS 1 and 2 tape format. This assures tape interchange betweenall the major DAT manufacturers (e.g., WangDAT, HP, Sony, Archive, andWangtek). Included with the DAT drive is the DDS standard hardwarecompression chip yielding tape capacities of up to 5 GB per tape.The DAT comes with Apunix's custom full-feature software package, whichincludes a device driver, status display program, Network Backup Daemon.Also available is Apunix's Fartool, a tar-compatible program that usesthe DAT tape drive's ability for tape partitioning, and QFA (quick fileaccess) Archived files can be accessed in just minutes and safely updatedusing the hardware tape partitioning. Benchmarks have shown Fartool toprovide 20 to 300 times improvement in retrieval time over conventionalarchiving programs.
